DONATE WITH ADEQUATE NUTRITION FOR 1000 VULNERABLE ELDERLY PEOPLE

by SPPDINDIA

Summary

To enhance the nutritional health and well-being of 1,000 elderly individuals in Tamil Nadu. This project aims to address the unique nutritional needs of the elderly population, improve their immunity, and promote a healthier aging process.

Challenge

Many live below the poverty line, struggling to secure basic needs like food, shelter, and healthcare. For most, limited income sources or small pensions barely cover essential expenses, and social security programs often fail to reach this vulnerable population, particularly those from marginalized communities.

In rural areas, elderly people who previously depended on agriculture find it challenging to continue this labor-intensive work due to age-related health issues. These challenges are worsened by limited access to healthcare facilities, social isolation, and a lack of support networks. In urban low-income neighborhoods, elderly people contend with rising living costs, inadequate housing, and poor sanitation, all of which place further strain on their limited resources. Although some may receive free medication from the government or local health centers, they often lack access to the balanced nutrition essential to manage these illnesses effectively. Their diets are primarily limited to staple foods like rice, with minimal access to protein-rich foods like dal or other nutritious elements. This lack of proper nutrition takes a heavy toll, leaving many elderly, especially women, physically and mentally affected, often enduring prolonged illness without the support needed to regain health.

These combined socioeconomic, health, and familial challenges underscore the urgent need for targeted interventions to improve the nutrition, healthcare access, and overall well-being of elderly individuals

Solution

Your donation will provide monthly nutrition kits, health education, and regular health monitoring to ensure that the elderly receive the essential nutrients needed to manage chronic conditions like diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. Additionally, the initiative will foster community engagement and support through the creation of peer groups and partnerships with local healthcare providers. The project seeks to enhance the quality of life of elderly individuals, reduce malnutrition, and promote social inclusion while ensuring sustainability through capacity building and policy advocacy.

To combat the nutritional deficiencies, providing nutrition kits rich in protein, vitamins, and minerals could be an impactful intervention. The funds would be utilized towards procuring the ingredients of the nutrition kits for children. The items such as Dates – 500 gms + Health Drink 500 gms + Chickpea 1 kg + Green Gram 1 kg + Red Gram 1 kg + White Chana 1 kg+ Ragi Flour 1.5 kg + Dall 2 kg + Atta 5 kg. The same set of beneficiaries shall be receiving the nutrition kits every month.

How Your Donation Will Be Used

Through your donation , these elderly individuals will receive essential nutrition support that addresses their specific dietary needs, helping to alleviate malnutrition, improve health outcomes, and enhance their quality of life. By focusing on this population, the project aims to create a positive impact on their physical and mental well-being while also fostering a supportive community network to help sustain these improvements in the long term.

Cost per beneficiary INR 1200 per  Adult / month
